Prof. Gosla is a Craniofacial Surgeon who specializes in treating patients born or suffering with any form of facial defect. Prof. Gosla also specializes in cosmetic surgery of the face with the concept of face designing creating a harmony of facial symmetry with facial balance.

Prof. Gosla received his Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1996 from the Mangalore University, Karnataka, India.

He started cleft and craniofacial services in Hyderabad in 1996. The service catered to children born with cleft and craniofacial defects born in Hyderabad and its surrounding districts.

Since starting on the journey of treating children and patients with craniofacial defects, he realized he needed more training in the field. Prof. Gosla went on to complete his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Andhra Pradesh, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the Radboud University, Nijmegen, The Netherlands, Fellow of Dental Surgery from Royal College of Surgeons (FDSRCS), Edinburgh and then England, UK, Fellow of Dental Surgery from Royal College of Physician and Surgeons (FDSRPCS), Glasgow, Fellow of Surgery (FRCS) from Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

He has also trained extensively in various craniofacial centres in Europe like University Hospital Zurich Switzerland, Poole Hospital United Kingdom, AV Sint Jan Hospital Bruges Belgium, University Hospital Muenster Germany, University Hospital Leipzig Germany and University Hospital Halle Germany.

Prof. Gosla has established a 50-bed stand-alone state of the art craniofacial centre in Hyderabad, India, The GSR Institute of Craniofacial and Facial Plastic surgery (GSRICFS), which treats more than 1500 patients with cleft and craniofacial defects every year. More than 30,000 patients with such defects have been treated at this hospital.

Prof. Gosla is also a well know teacher in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a Professor attached to the University of Timisoara, Romania, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal Yenepoya University, Mangalore, Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Karad, Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences, Wardha and AIIMS, Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. He also runs a very popular Fellowship program in Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery at the GSRICFS, where he trains 4 Fellows every year. This program has trained more than 60 Fellows till today. More than 100 Post Graduate students from 16 different universities visit the GSRICFS every year to complete their prescribed training in cleft and craniofacial surgery and more than 750 students have visited the institute over the last 10 years.

Prof. Gosla has also established a school for disadvantaged children with cleft and craniofacial defects. This unique boarding school has 100 students that stay in a premise provided by the GSRICFS and attend school with normal children. All their school fees, clothes, stay and books are paid for or provided by Prof. Gosla’s Foundation.

Prof. Gosla has been instrumental in raising funds from Smile Train Inc. and Cleft Children International to treat a large number of patients with cleft and craniofacial defects free of charge at the GSRICFS. Prof. Gosla also partnered with Cleft-Kinder-HilfeSchweiz and Sumbing Bieber to fund the school project.

His motto in life has been to “BRING THE SMILE BACK” to these unfortunate children and he has succeeded in doing that.

The GSRICFS is a 50 bed hospital that exclusively caters to patients with cleft and craniofacial defects from around a 1,000 kilometer radius of Hyderabad, India. The Hospital does free treatment for 1,500 patients with cleft and craniofacial defects every year. The Hospital has performed more than 30,000 free surgeries with financial help from Smile Train, a charitable organization from USA and Cleft Children International, a charitable organization from Zurich, Switzerland.

The GSRICFS runs a fellowship program to train Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in the field of cleft and craniofacial surgery. The Institute has trained more than 60 fellows since 2002. The Institute is also recognized by 16 Universities in India as a training institute for Post Graduate students in the field of cleft and craniofacial surgery as part of the Post Graduate training curriculum.

The Institute is involved in a robust research program. The Institute in collaboration with University Medical Center, Radboud University has sponsored PhD programs on topics like Cleft Lip, Cleft Palate and Medicine 2.0. The Institute is pioneering the use of internet technology and Medicine 2.0 to provide Speech Therapy services in the rural areas of India. The Institute also has collaborated with SHARE India to implement the REACH (Rural Effective, Affordable Comprehensive Healthcare). REACH project’s main aims are to raise awareness on issues critical to community health. REACH works in slums, schools and communities, and caters to patients from the lower socio-economic strata by supporting them through treatment, counselling, removing stigma, offering support for food, conveyance and tests that the patient may need, and helping patients to stay motivated to complete treatment.

The parent body of the GSRICFS, the Hyderabad Cleft Society, runs a school for 100 underprivileged and orphaned children born with cleft and craniofacial defects. The school takes care of these children by providing them with tuition fees at a local school, free halls of residence and food.
